Intro

This guide has been written to supplement the U-Make modular rail system from Trainz Eastern Routes. The guide will cover the basic elements of how to start a module as well as a set of rules so that all modules can be easily connected together.

  Disclaimer

Firstly the U-Make system is 100% freeware and as such no part may be used to obtain profit in any form, basically this is for everybody so share and share alike because I have a big stick and a very mean kitty-cat to enforce this policy. Modules may include payware items but those items must not be distributed illegally (again this is just common sense, but some people really are that stupid). Modules that do include payware must clearly state in the description that they do so, failure to do this means I will divert all of my complaint e-mails to YOUR inbox and see how you like it. And finally ALL modules MUST be distributed by Aurans Download Server (DLS) only, no excuses, it works fine for 99% of people so it’s what I’m sticking with. If you have any questions ask, I have no problem answering e-mail, it’ll be at the bottom of this guide better to be safe than sorry later.

  How It Works

U-Make works by small amounts of baseboards linked together by a common point. The area between these measured points is not particularly important however there are certain areas that should be made to match as closely as possible. Once you have had a little practice making these modules can be a very fast process, for example I managed to make 46 boards on the first day which gives you an idea on how expansive this system should end up being. So on with the rules, just remember if you have any problem with any part of this document feel free to ask me and I’ll be happy to help (please just leave me at least 2 hours sleep a night and I’ll be happy enough).

  Baseboards

A good and logical place to start I thought, there’s only really 2 points to cover regarding boards.

Point 1:

Get your bearings, Modules run either North-South or East-West except in the case of corners. Make sure you note which direction your module runs in preferably in the title and not the description. I have stuck with the abbreviations of N-S and E-W. Corners are a little harder but just get as close as possible. This will stop a lot of confusion with downloads.

Point 2:

This is regarding elevations on the boards. DO NOT elevate right to the edge of the end of a module where they join. Basic modules should begin and terminate at a plane height of 0. If you wish to create a set of higher elevation modules then please give a height reference number in the description and please make a set of incline/decline merger boards.
